Testimonials – Prior Experience
As a practitioner and long time student of Western Herbal Medicine, the coursework and support I had at the NAIMH was invaluable in my journey towards clinical practice. After practicing emergency medicine for some years, and studying in classroom programs at two other schools, I had the privilege of taking my first NAIMH course, Vitalist Treatment of Acute Symptoms. With a reasonable background in medicine, the biosciences, and herbalism already, I was all the more impressed with the breadth of information I found through this course. Herbs I felt I knew previously, expanded in their scope and application, while my knowledge of practical clinical protocols was greatly enhanced. Since then I have taken every NAIMH distance course offered and I have not been disappointed. I particularly appreciate the modern medical herbal perspective steeped in Greek-Arabic humoural medicine and the Vitalist tradition of Physiomedicalism . . .. and they say Western Herbalism has lost its energetics. Paul Bergner and Mary Barnes proved to me that this is not the case.
It’s amazing that after “dabbling” with herbs for over 20 years and settling into the same routine with the tried and true handful that had become part of our family’s medicine cabinet [and often snuck into our dinners] that my passion and fire has been rekindled, but with purpose. The approach of how to learn and study herbalism has been an eye opening experience and will change the way I study from here on out.
