Clinical Training

Acorn School of Herbal Medicine

You can study our entire audio curriculum at our affiliated Acorn School of Herbal Medicine in a "flipped classroom" model. Rather than sit in lectures and then do homework, in the flipped classroom model, you listen to the lectures (the NAIMH audio recordings) on your own time, and then come together in a live classroom for community learning with a review, Q and A, applications, hands-on demonstrations, and case studies. The classroom portion is run by veteran elder herbalist Heather Luna, with NAIMH director Paul Bergner in attendance for questions. The Acorn School completes your training with a clinical program where you see clients in a telemedicine clinic. All students are mentored, and all cases are reviewed by herbalist/nutritionists Heather Luna and Paul Bergner. Student-residents then come together once a week for a community review of the cases from the week with group learning from each case in the clinic.

Colorado School of Clinical Herbalism

Our affiliated Colorado School of Clinical Herbalism in Lafayette CO offers on-site beginning, advanced, and clinical training, culminating in an 8-month residency in a public clinic. Certification can be earned in any combination of Fundamentals, Advanced, Clinic, Nutrition, Field Botany, Flower Essences, and Aromatherapy Programs. This school was originally founded as the NAIMH in  2003. It was sold, along with its curriculum and educational model, to become the CSCH in 2012. The curriculum has developed and evolved over time but educates on the same model and principles as the NAIMH. The CSCH offers clinical training with mixed in-person and telemedicine client visits. All cases are reviewed by clinical faculty, including NAIMH director Paul Bergner, and also reviewed by each of the clinical resident students. This model allows each practitioner to learn from all the cases in the clinic during their term. Cases are discussed then in a round table format with clinical faculty once a week.

Southern Institute of Medical Herbalism

Our affiliated Southern Institute of Medical Herbalism, located in New Zealand, with classes offered online, also incorporates the entire audio curriculum you see at this site, enhanced by video and mentoring by experienced elder herbalists from New Zealand.

The NAIMH also periodically offers on-site training through seminars and webinars in interview skills, clinical skills, and case analysis.
